What My Children Are Reading, August 27 edition

Wow...it's hard to believe the summer is almost over. Our reading routine has definitely been inconsistent throughout the summer because we've spent a lot of time playing outside in the evenings, but as the days get shorter, I think we'll fall back into our regular reading routine. Over the past week, we've managed to read at least a little bit every day, and my daughter particularly enjoyed these books.

The Monster at the End of This Book by Jon Stone
My daughter absolutely loves this board book. The more Grover begs her not to turn the page because there's a monster at the end of the book, the more she wants to turn it. Lovable Grover's voice is captured perfectly, and my little one has fits of giggles on each page. I remember loving this book when I was a little girl, and seeing my little girl enjoy the same book is a wonderful experience.

Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed by Mo Willems

Yes, Mo Willems continues to be a well-loved author in our home. In this book, Wilbur, a naked mole rat dares to be a bit different and wears clothes to the other naked mole rats' horror. When members of the naked mole rat colony consult Grand-pah, the wisest naked mole rat of all, they all learn a little lesson about acceptance and daring to be different. A funny book with equally funny illustrations...highly recommended.

  1. Three cheers for Mo Williams! It's a close tie as to who loves Mo Williams and his "Pigeon" books more in our house - us or our daughter. "Naked Mole Rat" looks like a perfect gift for D's upcoming birthday.

  3. We just read Don't let the Pigeon Stay Up Late a couple nights ago. Always well loved! My little one loves to note that the pigeon holds Knuffle Bunny, another great book. My 2nd grader is now hooked on Goosebumps thanks to her super awesome teacher. But I think they're scary!

  4. Chris,
The pigeon also makes an appearance in Knuffle Bunny. My little one pointed that out to me. :-)

  6. Oops, commented wrong above. I was trying to say that we love The Monster at the End of This Book. It was also one of my favorites as a child. :)

  7. I loved the Monster at the End of this Book when I was younger, and I've been pleased to see that so many other book bloggers feel the same way. My son doesn't really like it (yet? I hope). This week I received two other Jon Stone Grover books! I'm going to review them on my blog soon. One is Resting Places and the other Hide and Seek.

  10. We love Mo Willems! Pigeon is pretty much in all of his books in some sort of cameo appearance. Bonus! In Knuffle Bunny Too, you can see a stuffed Leonardo in Trixie's room. My son loves to play the find the Pigeon game while reading through the books. :) My four year old recently discovered Jan Thomas so we've been reading "A Birthday for Cow", "The Doghouse", and "Rhyming Dust Bunnies" (very hilarious).

Especially since on Goodreads, our taste is 92% similar. :)
